Public Health Practitioner & Mental Health Nurse Counsellor

Hi, I'm Jacqui. I am a Public Health Practitioner and lived experience Mental Health Nurse Counsellor. I have 25 years experience working in private practice, community health, hospitals and education. I established Nursing The Mind as I believe creating a culture of care is key to improving mental health in the community.

I provide counselling for a range of health issues including anxiety and depression, chronic illness, women's health (including Endometriosis & Pelvic Pain), youth mental health and trauma. My special interest area is institutional trauma; including medical, religious & workplace trauma.

A Master of Public Health informs my focus on person centred care, education, and advocacy. A focus on education is aimed at improving our mental health literacy. This helps to reduce stigma and create confidence for people to access the health supports they need.

I am registered with ACMHN, AHPRA, CCAA and PACFA. My services are outlined below.

I provide counselling, clinical supervision and courses. I also have a podcast on recovery from religious trauma called What The Church?!

Workshops

Plant Therapy Workshop

Hosted by Nursing The Mind and In Bloom Horticulture, this 2-hour workshop weaves together principles of self-compassion and plant care to inspire much needed self-care.

Tamara Campbell from In Bloom Horticulture is an experienced horticulturist and created her business to share her knowledge and her passion for plants with her community.

I believe it is important to move beyond the medical model of mental health care to promote wellbeing. I love plants and look to the natural world for wisdom in improving wellbeing.

Tickets available here.

Podcast

What The Church?! is focused on improving health and spiritual care for people who have experienced religious harm.

I interview people with a lived experience, and health and spiritual care providers who are committed to religious trauma recovery. Each person’s story improves our understanding of religious trauma, and their insights will empower us to deliver health and spiritual care in a safe and trauma-informed way.

What The Church?! believes breaking free from coercive religious practices is essential to improving the health and wellbeing of church communities. Join us for the conversation.

Available on Acast, Apple, Spotify or via the website.

Testimonials

This MHFA course is actually the first ever training I've been to where the person actually understands what we do as Professional Organisers. It's great training and Jacqui is a great facilitator.

The Art of Decluttering

I would highly recommend the Mental Health First Aid Course. The content was excellent with practical applications of how to respond in various situations. Jacqui was an awesome instructor. Her Zoom sessions were the best I have attended [throughout lockdown]. They were wise, engaging, interactive and so helpful in applying everything we learnt.
